Acts as a neuromodulator in the central nervous system, promoting feeding, positive energy balance (orexigenic) and sleep. Inhibits stimulated ACTH release (lowering plasma glucocorticoids), consistent with a role in down-regulating hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activity.
