5-Azidomethyl-uridine is a point chemical reagent containing an azide group· It may be used as a substitute for BrU (5-bromouridine) or 5-EU (5-ethynyluridine) in copper-catalyzed detection of new RNA synthesis in proliferating cells· 5-AmU is cell-permeable and may bind to newly synthesized RNA instead of its natural analogue uridine· This hypothesis is based on the previously demonstrated applicability of 5-AmdU (5-azido-methyl-deoxyuridine) for monitoring DNA synthesis and 5-AmUTP (5-azido-methyl-UTP) for monitoring RNA synthesis
